The winners of the 2019 Spiel des Jahres and Kennerspiel des Jahres have just been announced this morning at a buzzing Berlin Con! Since 1978 the Spiel des Jahres has been annually rewarding excellence in game design, and the award always does some stunning work in promoting top-quality games in the German, European, and world markets.

The children's game award, the Kinderspiel des Jahres, was announced on 24 June 2019 and was won by Tal der Wikinger/Valley of the Vikings (Marie and Wilfried Fort: Haba)
As a huge fan of fillers (a solid length:depth or fun:price ratio always get me going), it was lovely to see an emphasis on light, easy-to-teach games for this year's Spiel des Jahres. In fact, all 3 of the fabulous nominated games have a playing time 20 minutes or less!
Congratulations to the winners and all the nominees!
